Spring Landscapes in Central Texas

In Austin, this is the time of the year we begin to hope for wildflowers and patio weather. It is also one of the best windows for spring landscaping in central Texas. At Shamballah Home & Gardens, March and April are a prime time for planting. We generally only see a few weeks before 90º+ days begin, and when it comes to building water-conscious, sustainable spring landscapes that thrive during the Texas heat, timing and planning are everything.

When is Spring Install Season in Austin?

The optimal window for spring installations is March and April, sometimes extending into May. Because Texas weather can shift quickly, we always recommend beginning as early as possible to give your landscape the best chance to thrive.

Summer in Central Texas doesn’t always wait for the calendar. The biggest challenge with spring landscape installations is never quite knowing when the heat will arrive. Installing earlier in the spring season gives plants their best opportunity to establish strong root systems before the intense summer heat arrives.

When Should You Start Planning Your Spring Landscapes?

We begin our design process in February, allowing us to thoughtfully plan and prepare for installations as soon as March arrives.

From inquiry to installation, we tell clients that a realistic timeline is about four weeks. Spring projects often sneak up on homeowners, and we tend to receive less lead time than in the fall, which means our schedule fills up fast in the spring!

If you are envisioning a March or April installation, we encourage you to connect with us early so we can create a plan that supports your vision and the land’s needs.

Preparing for Spring Landscaping

Our design philosophy is never driven by trends. Instead, we focus on what will truly support the long-term health and beauty of your landscape:

  • Native and native-adapted plants
  • Long-term sustainability
  • Soil rebuilding and water retention
  • Matching plants to the microclimates on each property

In a climate like Austin’s, good design isn’t about what’s trending; it’s about what will thrive in the summer heat.
